Reading and Literacy Bridge specialization

Prepare yourself for a leadership position in reading and literacy with a bridge specialization designed for educators whose master's degree focus is not reading and literacy. This specialization covers the curriculum from Capella's Reading and Literacy EdD specialization, along with five master's-level bridge courses that provide the academic preparation you need to move into doctoral studies in this field. The bridge curriculum emphasizes reading comprehension and fluency strategies, assessment and evaluation, the sociocultural context of reading instruction, and current theory, research, and best practices. After completing the bridge courses, you'll continue building your knowledge and professional relationships by taking your EdD courses in sequence with the same cohort of students. In addition to online course work, field experiences provide opportunities to apply your newly gained knowledge in diverse educational settings and identify a reading and literacy challenge to address in an action dissertation project. Convenient electronic textbooks are available for most courses, which lowers costs and provides immediate access to course materials. People who choose this specialization are often P–12 teachers and administrators interested in pursuing reading and literacy leadership roles in schools, districts, and other educational organizations.

This program is not designed for certification, licensure or endorsement. For more information about educator licensing, please see our Education Licensure Resource site.
