Harry Mosley considers himself a natural when it comes to computers and
IT. He attended technical school, took some college courses, and earned
numerous certifications in IT. He was highly valued by his long-time
employer, where he was promoted to vice president.
"But there seemed to be a small part of me that was missing," says Mosley.
"People talk about the colleges they graduated from and the experiences
they had there. I was missing some polish. I could never check that box
that said I had a degree," he says.
What if he ever had to look for a new job? His skills and knowledge were
strong, but how would outsiders view him?
So Mosley enrolled at Capella University. He credits this education for
polishing his presentation skills and strengthening his coaching abilities.
"Since graduating from Capella, I'm able to shine during presentations
in front of large audiences, and coach other leaders on the team. Those
two tasks used to paralyze me, but not any more," he says. "It's almost
like I've developed a turbocharger. I know that the team development
and leadership skills I acquired at Capella are part of the reason for my
professional and personal expansion."
Mosley possesses a new level of confidence in his abilities, including
being able to thrive in adverse, unpredictable situations. He can shift
gears quickly and take on greater responsibility. He's proud that he was
able to carry a very full load of courses while working full time. "It's all
about meticulous time management and delivering on deadlines," he says.
He says education has made him a better rounded person, not just a more
skilled professional. "Getting my degree has given me a tremendous
feeling of accomplishment."
