Accreditations
- Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)
The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) is a nationally recognized accreditation agency approved by the U.S. Secretary of Education. Accreditation by CCNE serves as a statement of good educational practice in the field of nursing. The following Capella programs are accredited by the CCNE*:

- National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE)
Capella offers 14 advanced academic offerings that prepare individuals to serve in a variety of roles within the P–12 education environment. These programs make up Capella's Professional Education Unit, which has been accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). NCATE-accredited programs are known for their standards and rigor, which is why graduates of these programs are highly regarded by many school districts, licensing authorities, and teaching professionals.
The Professional Education Unit at Capella University is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), 2010 Massachusetts Ave., NW, Suite 500, Washington, DC 20036; phone (202) 466-7496. This accreditation covers advanced educator preparation programs. NCATE is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation to accredit programs for the preparation of teachers and other professional school personnel.

Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP) of the North Central Association's Higher Learning Commission
In 2000, Capella became the first online institution to become a charter participant of AQIP, a program of the North Central Association's Higher Learning Commission in which institutions commit to a program of continuous quality improvement. Capella's accreditation was reaffirmed in 2008; its next scheduled accreditation reaffirmation process will be during the 2014–2015 academic year.
- Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP)
Capella has earned CACREP accreditation for three master's programs in counseling: Mental Health Counseling; Marriage and Family Counseling/Therapy; and School Counseling.
- Project Management Institute (PMI®) Global Accreditation Center for Project Management (PMI-GAC)
The following specializations have been accredited by the Project Management Institute (PMI®) Global Accreditation Center for Project Management (PMI-GAC):

- ABET accreditation for BS in IT
ABET, the recognized accreditor for college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering, and technology, has accredited Capella's BS in IT program. ABET accreditation is a key indicator of Capella's dedication to educational quality that prepares our graduates for entry or advancement in the IT profession.

State Approvals
- Arizona Department of Education
The following programs and/or specializations leading to endorsement for licensure have been approved by the
Arizona Department of Education:
- PhD in Education, Leadership in Educational Administration (Principal and Superintendent endorsement)
- MS in Education, Leadership in Educational Administration (Principal endorsement)
- MS in Psychology, School Psychology
- Specialist Certificate in School Psychology
- MS in School Counseling
- Minnesota Board of School Administrators
The following programs leading to endorsement for licensure have been approved by the Minnesota Board of School Administrators:

The National Security Administration's Information Assurance Courseware Evaluation (IACE) Review Committee has validated that Capella's information security curriculum meets the Committee on National Security Systems (CNSS) National Standards 4011, 4013, and 4014.
- ROI Institute™
Capella is the only university to offer a master's degree specialization and PhD degree specialization that include ROI certification in the Phillips' ROI Methodology:

The International Society of Performance Improvement (ISPI) awarded Capella University's Virtual ISPI chapter with its Chapters of Excellence award in recognition of its efforts in chapter operations, programming, membership, and advancement of the field of human performance technology.

International Society of Performance Improvement
ISPI awarded Capella's Virtual ISPI chapter with its Chapter Communication and Education award. It recognizes a resource the chapter developed to link alumni with learners in a similar field of work to share project and site ideas to complete a core course requirement.
- CHEA Award for Outstanding Institutional Practice in Student Learning Outcomes, 2010
The Council for Higher Education Accreditation
Capella University is the first online university to receive the CHEA award which was given based on four award criteria: articulation and evidence of outcomes; success with regard to outcomes; information to the public about outcomes; and use of outcomes for educational improvement.

Interactive Council, Inc.
The Interactive Council, Inc, a non-profit organization of leading web designers, developers, programmers, advertisers and other web-related professionals, awarded "Best in Class" Interactive Media Awards to two Capella web sites. The Inside Capella site and the Learning and Career Outcomes site won two of the three Best in Class Interactive Media Awards for the "University" category in 2009.

Western Cooperative for Educational Telecommunications
Capella University was honored with this award in a competition recognizing innovative uses of educational technologies in higher education.
